It is a sculpted oval percher in rich red velvet-finish fabric, with a plump rolled edge and a crisp seam running down the crown. At the back sits a spray of red marabou and curled feathers that moves as you do.
Marida was a London-based British milliner whose hats appeared in fashion editorials of the 1970s alongside labels like Biba and Jaeger, and later became a favourite for occasion wear through the 1980s. This piece shows the house’s style well. It draws on 1940s and 1950s cocktail hats but has the confident colour and scale of the 1980s.
