A characterful cast-metal chess set with a medieval and Renaissance court theme. Each side is a full cast of figures: a bearded king holding an orb and wearing a crown, a queen in a tall conical hennin headdress and flowing robes, nobles in pleated doublets as bishops, riders on rearing horses as knights, brick-detailed towers as rooks, and capped foot soldiers as pawns.
One side has an antique gold/brass-tone finish and the other an antique silver/pewter-tone finish. The castings are well detailed, with fine work on the robes, crowns, horse bridles and tower brickwork. The pieces are heavy, solid metal and sit well on the board.
