Sterling Silver 925 Marcasite Lizard Brooch

A charming vintage lizard (or gecko) brooch, its body set with three rows of sparkling faceted marcasites that run from the head down the spine. The legs and long, curling tail are finely textured with detailed toes, giving the piece a lively, lifelike pose.

Marcasite animal brooches were especially popular from the 1930s through the mid-century, and lizards were a favourite motif, often worn on a lapel or coat collar. This one carries a soft, natural patina that brings out the detail in the metalwork.
