Southern Railway Quiet Please Cast Iron Sign – 'Rustic Railwayana' Wall Plaque

A cast iron railway sign with heavy rust patina, reading “Southern Railway – Quiet Please – Avoid annoyance to residents. Keep your engine quiet and take care to avoid smoke and steam.”

It’s a polite little piece of steam-era history. Britain’s Southern Railway (1923–1947) ran through plenty of residential areas, and signs like this asked drivers and firemen to keep their locomotives quiet near houses. It’s a great conversation piece for a shed, man cave, bar, garden wall or any railway enthusiast’s collection.

The raised lettering is still legible under an even coat of rust, with some brighter orange patches toward the lower edge. It has four pre-drilled corner holes, so it’s ready to hang.
