Antique wood-handled twist gimlets, which are hand tools used for drilling small holes in wood, leather or other materials.

They create pilot holes for screws or nails without splitting the wood. The threaded tip starts the hole, and the twisted shank widens it and removes waste.
Gimlets are faster and more convenient than electric drills for small holes.

Also commonly called Augers, Awls and Drill Bits.

A larger version of this tool is called an auger.
The name "gimlet" likely comes from Old French.

Era likely late 1800s-early 1900s.

Price per gimlet.

Available at La La Vintage in Semaphore.
