A refined and theatrical tall giltwood pier mirror, richly ornamented with acanthus scrolls and floral gesso, crowned by a delicate 18th-century-style French engraving titled “Le Bain.” The scene—printed by the notable Parisian publisher Buldet, rue de Gannes—depicts a leisurely moment in a boudoir, rendered in fine sepia and aquatint tones.
This piece likely dates to circa 1890–1910, during the Louis XVI revival period, and was originally made for a well-appointed home, possibly in France or England.
The reverse bears archival labels from J. May’s Depository, a well-known removals and storage firm operating in London (Whitfield Street and Farringdon Road) during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This connection suggests the mirror was once part of an estate or London townhouse collection, adding a rich layer of provenance and historical intrigue.
An exquisite decorator’s piece, perfect for a hallway, dressing area, or anywhere in need of classical grandeur.
Available exclusively at La La Vintage in Semaphore.
