A commanding and authentic 19th-century (estimated 1840s) French provincial marriage armoire, hand-crafted in solid oak sourced directly from Normandy, France. Towering over two meters tall, it commands attention in a way that modern furniture cannot simply replicate. The arched crown is anchored by an imposing, hand carved floral crest, flowing down to twin panels covered in deep-relief foliate garlands, classical medallions, and bold Rococo scrollwork. It features full length exposed brass barrel hinges and original grand escutcheons. Multiple shelves inside with generous interior capacity.
Heavy, solid European oak with rich historic patina. Remarkable antique condition, finished with a gorgeous natural wax. Fitted with a later functioning interior rim lock and working key (circa 1920s) with visible historic ghosting from the original hand-forged lockbox, an authentic detail of its long working life and care taken in preserving the piece.
Approximately 2400mm tall (to crest), 1300mm wide and 500mm deep.
