A genuine slice of 1930s optimism, cast in tin. This small desk globe was made by J. Chein & Co. of the USA. Beneath its charming hand-lithographed surface lies a snapshot of the interwar world — complete with the flight paths of the Graf Zeppelin's 1929 world tour and Lindbergh's historic 1927 New York-to-Paris crossing, both printed right onto the ocean. This was the era when air travel was still a marvel worth mapping.

Nearly a century of handling has left the globe with a warm, well-loved patina — scattered rust freckling across the surface and a gentle crease near South America that speaks to decades of genuine use. The tin lithograph colours remain vivid, the maker's mark is crisp and legible, and the globe still turns smoothly on its cream meridian arm. A wonderful conversation piece for map collectors, mid-century decorators, or anyone who loves a well-travelled object with real provenance.

Approximately 21cm tall, 13cm diameter globe.
