Elegant figural table lamp featuring a classical maiden in flowing Grecian drapery, one arm raised to steady a water urn on her shoulder. The figure stands barefoot on a stepped black turned base fitted with a brass nameplate reading “Rebecca”, a nod to the biblical Rebecca at the well, a favourite subject of 19th-century European decorative sculpture.
The casting is nicely detailed, with good definition in the face, hair, garland and folds of the gown. The figure has a dark bronze-toned patina and appears to be spelter (white metal) rather than solid bronze. The urn has been converted to take a lamp fitting, with a brass stem rising through the top. Supplied with an oatmeal textured fabric shade with black trim.
