A rare and highly collectible 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games lighter, manufactured by Penguin (Japan) as an official souvenir for Australia’s first Olympic Games.

This compact metal lighter features a raised graphic of an Olympic torch runner on one side and an embossed 1950s map of Australia on the reverse. The base retains its original stamped markings: “Penguin Superlative Automatic Lighter – Pat. 29397” and the dual screw system for petrol filling and flint replacement.

Penguin was a major Japanese lighter maker of the 1950s and is renowned for its durable “Superlative Automatic” ignition system. Olympic souvenirs from the 1956 Melbourne Games are increasingly sought after, and lighters are among the most desirable categories.

A fantastic piece of mid-century design and Olympic history — perfect for collectors of sporting memorabilia, tobacciana, or Japanese vintage lighters.
