This heavy, ornate door knocker is cast iron in the style of the famous knockers found on palazzo doors across Tuscany, featuring a snarling grotesque mask at the top gripping a ribbed hinge in its jaws. Below, two chubby putti (cherubs) flank a shield bearing six raised balls, the “palle” of the Medici family, the banking dynasty that ruled Florence and bankrolled much of the Renaissance. Scrolling acanthus leaves and a scroll base complete the design.

Finished in an antiqued bronze-gold over dark verdigris green, giving it an aged, weathered look straight out of the box. The lower crest section swings on the hinge as the striker.

Available at La La Vintage
67 Semaphore Road,
Semaphore SA 5019
(Next to Odeon Cinema)

OPEN 10am-4pm EVERYDAY

https://lalavintage.com.au/products/florentine-style-cast-iron-door-knocker-medici-crest-with-cherubs-grotesque-mask
